What is the R35 Cup?

The 'R35 Cup' is a lighthearted pylon racing series primarily utilising the R35 Frenzy aircraft. The emphasis is strongly on the social side of the hobby with entertainment being one of the key objectives. Due to some of the events taking place at public displays, the series is open to any pilot with a BMFA (British Model Flying Association) 'B' or an LMA (Large Model Association) proficiency certificate and relevant insurance cover.

How Can You Join?

Simply purchase an R35 Frenzy aircraft and you will be automatically assigned a race number. Providing that you meet the pilot qualification requirements and have either BMFA or LMA insurance cover and can confidently fly the pylon circuit in a busy flying slot with your aircraft then you are welcome to join. Make sure that your number is clearly displayed on your aircraft and you are ready to go. Alternatively, the R35 Cup is open to any and all aircraft with an engine size of up to 35cc.

What do You Get?

If you purchase an R35 Frenzy aircraft from Propguy you will receive a 10% discount on any additional products you buy. Once you take part in an 'R35 Cup' event at a public display you will receive an additional voucher to spend with Propguy.

In addition, all 'R35 Cup' participants will receive post race hospitality (usually in the form of a barbecue and refreshments).

At the end of the season, the winning pilot will be presented with a cup and will get to display number one as their race number next season.

How Does it Work?

Race events usually consist of three or four races. All pilots take off at the beginning of the slot and circle ready to start. The Race Controller calls the start to the race and all pilots must fly across the start line to begin. The pilots must fly to the next pylon before making a turn and heading to the next pylon. Each course will consist of either two or three pylons. A spotter positioned at the side of each pilot will count each completed lap. Once ten laps have been completed, the spotter will hold a sign aloft displaying the relevant race number. The Race Controller will take note of the position pilots finish and award the relevant points:

Points Awarded

1st Place = 15 points

2nd Place = 10 points

3rd Place = 6 points

4th Place = 3 points

5th Place = 1 point
